Providing real-world, hands-on experiences is at the heart of the BIMM experience and an essential part of any student’s journey. Recently, a group of third-year students from our Event Management, Music Business and Music Marketing, Media and Communication courses embarked on a professional development trip to the iconic Southbank Centre in London, and what a day it was!
The day started with a private backstage tour of the Southbank Centre’s prestigious performance spaces: the Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall and Purcell Room. Led by an Event Manager, our students got an insider’s peek into the intricate workings of these cultural landmarks, gaining invaluable insights into the mechanics of organising and executing world-class events.
In the afternoon, our students had the privilege of speaking with Dickson Mbi, an Olivier award-winning choreographer whose creative genius knows no bounds.
And if that wasn’t enough, they were treated to performances by the London Philharmonic Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall and tickets to a sold-out rendition of ‘Just for One Day’ at the Old Vic – a musical tribute to the iconic Live Aid concert.

The feedback we received from our students speaks volumes:
“Thank you so much for organising such a wonderful day yesterday! It was so inspiring, motivational, and culturally enriching. Being able to experience classical and contemporary music on the same day was so special, as I love both!”
– Valis Volkova (Music Business/Vocals)
“I wanted to say a massive thank you for organising this amazing trip yesterday to London for all of us. We could feel how much hard work, time, and dedication you put into this. It was one of my highlights since transferring to Brighton, and hopefully, it will be a recurring event for future students.”
– Melina Elmassian (Music Business)
“Thank you for yesterday, genuinely. Seeing the venue behind the scenes and the tour was very cool. Even just seeing someone who started as a popping dancer becoming an opera composer and producer showed me how small-minded i was. Anyway, I just wanted to say I appreciate it, and I’m very much planning on making the most of the very little time I have left for things like this at BIMM.”
– Joe Woods (Music Business)
