Oh Brighton, there’s so many amazing places to see live music, whether someone busking in Pavilion Gardens or a local band playing in the vast array of venues. It’s hard to say which venue is the best, but here’s a few of our favourites.
The Prince Albert
Conveniently located on Trafalgar Street, right by the station – The Prince Albert is not only home to amazing live bands, it’s also home to the iconic Banksy graffiti of two policemen kissing on its wall of fame. With a good capacity of 100, it can cater to the needs of new bands making their way up in the Brighton scene. It’s a hub of creativity, converted from a three-storey town house it is a typical Brighton property, bursting with character and… stairs.
The Hope & Ruin
You can’t miss The Hope when you walk down to the seafront from Brighton Station – and you don’t want to. This 150-person capacity venue offers live music most nights, and is a particular favourite with BIMM Brighton bands, especially for their EP launches and gig swap showcases. It’s in-house Vegan kitchen and unique interior is a huge draw for all walks of life. The first-floor venue is truly a key spot for Brighton’s music scene. The Hope and Ruin is a gem.
The Haunt
Not only amazing club nights, The Haunt also hosts some amazing live music. The 300-capacity venue has housed big names such as; PWR BTTM, Foster the People, Palma Violets and Hot Chip. It is an old screening room of a converted cinema; it harks back to it’s past with a raised stage & floor to ceiling screen used during its club nights. The first-floor mezzanine and balcony area is a great escape from the crowds below. The Haunt like most of Brighton’s venues looks like very little on the outside but once you’re in it’s quite a wonderful experience.
Concorde 2
This classic Victorian building located on Madeira Drive holds so much history! Originally a tea room, then a Biker’s Café, then an Amusement Arcade, before its transformation into the venue we know and love today. It may be a slight trek to reach it but to experience this legendary venue is totally worth it! The likes of, Foo Fighters, The White Stripes, Jarvis Cocker, Macabees and The Gossip have performed in this prestigious venue. Including our very own BIMM Brighton students, at each End of Term show. It’s often considered one of Brighton’s best venues and we would most certainly agree.
