Screen and Film School Freshers Guide

11th September 2023

Screen and Film School has a full schedule for Freshers’ this year, offering some great chances to introduce yourself to your fellow students, as well as your wider BIMM University network, to chat all things music, film, theatre, and dance.

These are just some of the most unmissable highlights from each of our three cities. From game nights to UV paint parties, there’s truly a freshers’ event for everybody!

Brighton Freshers’

We’ve got a full week of exciting events on the south coast, including escape room sessions, silent discos, and an exclusive film panel from student society, Women in Film, at our Production House building. The event will host a panel of women working in film, to hear about their journeys and get handy tips for finding your feet in the industry. There’s also dance classes, yoga, gigs, the Freshers’ Fair and much, much more.

One of our favourite highlights of Brighton’s Freshers’ Week is our infamous UV night at one of Brighton’s biggest and best nightclubs: Revenge Brighton.

Revenge’s resident DJs will be spinning an eclectic mix of LGBTQ+ pop, pop-rock, dance & sing-along cheesy anthem PLUS … FREE glowsticks! Free entry for wristband holders and £3 otherwise, so feel free to bring your mates! No signups needed – but get down early, so you don’t miss out.

Birmingham Freshers’

At our Birmingham campus, the week kicks off with the Welcome Breakfast, where you’ll also have the chance to mingle with your fellow freshers, making connections that will last throughout your university journey and into your career.

Some key highlights include movies at the Everyman cinema, the craziest golf at Golf Fang, and roller disco at Rollerjam – but our pick for the biggest night is the unforgettable end-of-week party at Zumhoff, one of Digbeth’s awesome night spots where you can let loose and celebrate the beginning of your university adventure.

Manchester Freshers’

From city-wide bar crawls to laid-back coffee afternoons and Open Mic sessions, our Manchester calendar is bursting with excitement during the freshers’ period.

Our pick of the bunch has to be the iconic Games Night, where you’ll be able to get to know your fellow freshers with a healthy pinch of competition. From classic board games to a Nintendo Switch on the big screen, there will be a wide variety of games to suit all interests. So, bring your A-game and prepare for an evening of fun, laughter, friendly rivalry – and best of all: PIZZA!
