Hello Everyone, I’m Claudia, a second year BA Performing Arts student at the Brighton campus, and I’m here to tell you my five favourite things about living in Brighton.
Tasty and Full of Flavour
The first one would have to be the food. There is such a variety of different food and cuisines and so many student friendly places too, with amazing deals. One of my favourites is Donatello, an Italian restaurant and a Brighton Institution. Donatello has been serving up mouthwatering pastas, pizzas, and flavourful vegetarian dishes for as years.
Studying by the Sea
The next is a no brainer – having the beach on your doorstep is one of my favourite ever things about living here. I can watch the sun rise and set whenever I want. I love to go there for downtime, and just read and listen to the waves. There’s something so soothing about the rhythmic crash of the waves and the fresh sea air. Some quiet time sitting on the pebbles is the perfect way to clear my head and recentre myself. The beach is my go-to place for a bit of peace and tranquillity.
A great night out
Now I could not talk about Brighton without mentioning the night life. There are always so many incredible gigs going on, including open mic nights which I love to go to – as a performing arts student it’s such a good way of getting myself out there and out of my comfort zone. The energy and creativity that radiates through Brighton’s music scene is truly inspiring. Whether it’s catching a big-name act at one of the iconic venues or stumbling upon a hidden gem at a local pub, there’s always something exciting happening after dark in this city.
A hive of independent shopping
Next would of course be The Lanes. There is such a variety of different shops, cafes and restaurants, and I love shopping at all of the independent stores and vintage shops. I swear every time I go to the lanes I find a brand new shop. It’s one of my favourite places in Brighton. The Lanes have a real charm and character that you just can’t find in generic high street stores. I love searching through the quaint alleyways and boutiques for unique treasures, whether it’s a vintage dress, a one-of-a-kind piece of jewellery, or an artisanal homemade treat.
Hanging out at the marina
Last but not Least would be the Marina. The Marina is so gorgeous and there are so many different restaurants, shops and other entertainment there. I also love going to the Marina Dance Studio. It’s such an affordable way for students to get extra dance classes on top of the course, and there’s also a little aquarium there which I really love. The Marina has a really lovely, relaxed vibe to it. It’s the perfect spot to go for a leisurely stroll, grab a bite to eat, or enhance my dance skills.
I hope you love Brighton as much as I do! I’m glad to call this city my home.
