Next up for our Who What Why feature is BIMM Brighton Vocals student, Ryan Weeks.
Who are you listening to at the moment?
I’m really getting into bands like Sundara Karma, Black Pistol Fire and Little Richard. I love how fresh Sundara Karma are and how it feels like it’s the start of great things for them, if their debut album is anything to go by. With Black Pistol Fire you can really hear their influences like Jack White, and the early years of The Black Keys, although they bring in a more rockabilly vocal sound. Also the drummer looks like animal from the Muppets! Little Richard has such a powerful and influential voice is, every song is an absolute classic and he’s the grandfather of every rock song ever, including a massive influence to bands like the Beatles.
What do you love about Brighton?
I love how busy it is, I’m originally from Royal Tunbridge Wells, and I love how everyone has there own place in Brighton, no matter what you’re into, there’s always a clique or pub night that caters to it. Also everyone is so easy going, free spirited and unique, it’s like a real life Sesame Street!
Why Vocals?
I originally came into music as a vocalist and slowly began building up a reputation as a singer and a front man (which I totally wasn’t expecting) but now I am proud to call myself a singer. I felt as though the course would help me to become a far more well rounded performer, and would help to lower the risk of having singing injuries further on down the road.
I love the course and the wide range of talented and brilliant artists in my class.
