Here’s the fantastic Alex Beharrell talking BIMM, Brighton and why he focused on vocals.
Who are you listening to at the moment?
I listen to a wide range of artists but David Bowie is my all time favourite!
In addition to Bowie I listen to classic acts such as ‘The Police’ and ‘Queen’. If I’m in a Jazz mood I can always stick on some ‘Herbie Hancock’. ‘Coldplay’, ‘Black Keys’, ‘Radiohead’, etc etc. I could list people all day but more recently I’ve come across an Australian band called ‘Holy Holy’ who make big atmospheric rock music. Also ‘Lianne La Havas’ with her Jazz/Soul/R&B mix of songs.
What do you love about Brighton?
I love the look of Brighton and how carefree this vibrant city feels. For me and i guess many of you, the music scene is amazing with so many open mic nights and gig venues to choose from, and also the amount of art and colour Brighton has, it’s definatley a city for and made buy creative people.
Why Vocals?
I have just turned 29 so this is a question I asked ALOT before applying. I wanted a new career in a field where it wouldn’t feel like work. I’ve always been in bands and have done pretty well ‘locally’ as a singer/songwriter, with my biggest achievement being a 2 week contract as a lead character in a west end show. But I wanted to take things to the next level and I needed the knowledge, networking and the confidence to do it so….. I took a plunge and so far so good.
