Nana, an Electronic Music Production student at BIMM Music Institute Brighton, shares his inspiring journey into the world of music, reflecting on his early influences, the importance of creative development, and life on campus.
Early inspirations
“Music has always been a part of my life. From listening to songs on VHS tapes and jotting down lyrics to being a part of the choir in high school, my love for music has grown over the years. However, it was when I moved to Sweden that I found a group of like-minded individuals who shared my passion for music. This was the turning point when I decided to take my musical aspirations seriously and polish my craft.
Finding your path
The decision to pursue music was fueled by a desire to learn something I love. Growing up, school never really inspired me, but the idea of making music in my career was something I was passionate about. Seeing musicians live their dream lives and spread joy through their music motivated me to follow this path. For me, making music is about evoking emotions in people and making them feel good.
Exploring different genres
Over the years, I have experimented with various genres, including 80s and 90s disco, synthwave, afrobeat, highlife and R&B. My music is a patchwork of all these influences, reflecting my roots in Ghana and my exposure to different musical styles. I aim to create a unique blend that resonates with listeners and brings something fresh to the music scene.
The creative process
The process of developing music is something I deeply enjoy. It’s in this phase that my creativity goes into overdrive, and new ideas flow freely. Even if some ideas don’t make it to the final product, they often inspire new directions. This process is crucial for me, as it allows me to express myself fully and bring my vision to life.
