It’s a new week, and we’re back with your weekly dose of fresh music.

Brighton-based Swedish pop artist, Ida Eriksson, has been making a name for herself over the past year. With her uplifting and energetic sound, her latest release ‘City Lights’ is the perfect way to welcome in the new week. Take a listen and discover more about the track below.

What was your inspiration when you began writing the track?

This song was written over a year ago now. The inspiration behind it was that I wanted to write a pop song that really sounded like me and at the same time reflect on what was going on in my life at that time.

Are there any artists that inspire you when writing?

I am inspired by artists all the time, and it changes now and then, but I do have the main ones I always come back to. A few are Agnes, Astrid S, and Zara Larsson.

What is key to your sound and how do you make your music stand out?

The key to my music is movement and energy. It is all very electronic and I want to create an uplifting feeling. I bring an element of dance music into my pure pop sound, which I think makes it sound like me.

How does your songwriting process work?

I love to co-write my songs with other songwriters. For me, it pretty much always starts with melodies and then lyrics come after. But, often, the lyrics also come while writing the melody. Sometimes, that first instinct of a lyric is the best one.

Describe your sound in 3 words…

Energetic, confident, POP.

How has studying at BIMM helped you develop as an artist?

I have met a lot of incredible people at and through BIMM, and some of them are the ones involved in my artistry. I remember having the goal of recording my own songs and releasing them at the very start of my BIMM studies, and that is exactly where I am today. One step closer.

Being around musicians all the time and taking part in projects is inspiring and has given me the chance to get to where I am today.

What’s next for you?

I am working on a lot of new music so I am spending most of my time in the studio writing, recording and planning. I have so many exciting things to come this year that I can’t wait to share!
