2020 is here, and Track of the Week is back!
This is the awesome release from BIMM London’s LXCY with her debut single ‘Know’. Take a listen to get you going on the first Monday of the new decade.
What was your inspiration when you began writing the track?
I wrote this song about someone who left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth. It’s a song about realising that I didn’t want to associate with this person anymore and that I am better off without them.
Are there any artists that inspire you when writing?
I’m massively inspired by Kate Bush and Blondie. However, I know that this doesn’t reflect in my music. My other big influence would be Sara Bareilles.
What is key to your sound and how do you make your music stand out?
I find that my sound varies from song to song but – excluding maybe one or two songs – I think the things that define my sound would be the cheery guitar and melody with the not-so-cheery lyrics.
How does your songwriting process work?
My songwriting process varies with each song. Sometimes I start with a melody, others I start with the guitar. I find that lyrics tend to come last for me. I also use books if I have writers block as I find that it gives me something new to write about – even if I only use the story line loosely.
Describe your sound in 3 words…
Sassy acoustic goodness.
How has studying at BIMM helped you develop as an artist?
BIMM has helped me develop my collaborative skills and has helped me network with other musicians. This song would also not be made into a reality without BIMM as it was made possible through the Infinite Sounds project.
What’s next for you?
I’m hoping to release an EP in a few month’s time and I have a few gigs lined up over the next few weeks.
