Who are you listening to at the moment?
Manchester bands, it has to be, Scruffy bear, Mister twisted and The Navettes. Though theres so many great bands constantly releasing new music so it is forever changing! Otherwise, we are really into Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats, St Paul and the Broken Bones and The Most Ugly Child.
What do I love about Manchester?
There is literally something for everyone, music absolutely everywhere from record shops to cool venues, buskers, graffiti, tributes and it’s great to be part of that. It doesn’t matter what you’re into there is a place for you in Manchester, which as a musician is a very lucky thing. It’s also such a friendly city and has a nice buzz about it, it’s been very welcoming to me and I’ll be honest, I don’t even mind the rain all that much…
Why Songwriting?
Having always written songs it was kind of a natural progression, though I spent a number of years working before this saying I wasn’t good enough, etc but it kept nagging at me till I decided to apply and up till now it has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. It’s a great course, it challenges you and pushes you constantly in the best way which for someone as lazy as me is a good thing, I’ve written more in the last year or so than I have in my life and you can really see the improvement, I also didn’t realise how much there was to songwriting and the craft of it. Not only that but coming to Manchester from a smaller town was one of the best things, allowing me to get involved in a scene much bigger than what I was used to, it was daunting but totally worth it!
