Good morning, happy Monday and hello August!

Our Track of the Week this week comes from BIMM Berlin Songwriting student Blanca Pereira AKA Rumia. Inspired by the city she’s studying in, her sound has evolved into something synthetic and electronic and we love it!

Take a listen to her latest release, and discover more about the track below…

What was your inspiration when you began writing the track?

My inspiration was the idea that nothing in time is permanent; everything changes and is transformed. Under that premise, a relationship could not last forever – at least not in the same way, as people change and the relationship evolves.

Are there any artists that inspire you when writing?

On an instrumental level, I love 90s trip-hop, like Massive Attack. In the lyrics, I have to say, Thom Yorke.

What is key to your sound and how do you make your music stand out?

I’m trying to do something different. I take what I like the most and try to transform it into something more contemporary.

How does your songwriting process work?

I always start with the instrumental part and then add melodies and lyrics. An instrumental base, even if it is simple, helps me to understand what the song is asking for on a lyrical level.

Describe your sound in 3 words…

Rare, dark and real.

How has studying at BIMM helped you develop as an artist?

It has helped me understand where I wanted to take my music and has given me the tools to achieve it.

What’s next for you?

This single is the first of several songs that I will be releasing this year. I really want to continue showing what I have been working on!
