The weekend continues for one more day, but Track of the Week is back for your Monday morning new music fix!

This week we’re listening to the brand new release from Birmingham duo Hunger Moon. Take a listen and find out more about the track from Guitarist James Attwood below.

What was your inspiration when you began writing the track?

This track was led by Nat and is very much an introspective documentation of her own feelings towards the end of a relationship and friendship that had played a big part in her life. I think you can really hear that whenever she performs it live!

Are there any artists that inspire you when writing?

We both love Jeff Buckley, which is a key influence that comes across in our songwriting I think – especially when it comes to the intimacy, but also those grandiose moments.

What is key to your sound and how do you make your music stand out?

I think by doing what we both do best. Hunger Moon wouldn’t be what it is if I didn’t play guitar a certain way when I write music together with Nat, or if she didn’t use her voice in the way that she does.

We both love different genres of music and could probably write music in all of them if we tried, but the way that we react musically to one another is really unique. People seem to really be taking to it, which is incredible.

How does your songwriting process work?

Often, Nat will say ‘Play me something’ and I’ll just noodle with some chords on Guitar. Other times, Nat may have written some lyrics or me some music before getting into a rehearsal together.

Describe your sound in 3 words…

Introspective, melancholy, pop.

How has studying at BIMM helped you develop as an artist?

We have been lucky to perform at several festivals over the course of our degrees and at a lot of the Open Days in front of hundreds of people at a time. It’s really provided us with a space to hone our craft.

What’s next for you?

More new music! We need to get through this 30+ song backlog that is piling up!
