We caught up with the amazing Anna B Savage, a Masters student who is studying at BIMM Music Institute in Dublin.
What made you decide to come to BIMM Institute Dublin to study an MA?
Well, BIMM has been kind of in my peripheral vision for a few years. I have never studied music formally, and this year I was looking at the course and I basically saw that it touched upon every single part of the industry that made me feel insecure. So, I I was like, OK cool, I’m gonna check this out a bit more. And, I chose Dublin because it’s Dublin and I wanted a bit of an adventure. And, every time I’ve been to Dublin in the past I’ve had an absolute whale of a time, and everyone has always been super friendly here and, yeah, thought it would be a nice exciting little change.
How are you finding things so far?
Yeah, things are good. I’ve been really impressed with everything and actually so have a lot of my course mates. I’m also really impressed with how individualised the course is, or can be, if you make it that way. And, I think, that’s in big part due to the teaching as well. So, I think it’s great and everyone’s really lovely.
Are there any particular parts of the course you’re looking forward to?
Yes! I am looking forwards to next semester where we have two modules, one of which is on technology and one of which is on collaboration. Both of those are things that I feel quite insecure about and that I really want to learn to be better and feel more confident about. So, I’m really excited for that!
What advice would you give to someone thinking of studying an MA here at BIMM Institute Dublin?
I would say, be prepared to work really hard. I’ve been out of formal education for a few years so it’s a nice surprise coming back and actually having to work really hard. And I think also, you get out of it what you put in to it, so I’d say be prepared to work really hard so that you can get the most out of it, really. And, like, time management is key (I’m not very good at time management but I’m working on it) so, yeah. I think that would be my advice.
