What do you love about Bristol?
Bristol’s got this great creative vibe that I just can’t get enough of. I’ve been surrounded by art my entire life and so the graffiti in this city makes me feel right at home. Sometimes I’ll just grab my headphones and take a walk for a couple of hours to see what I can discover. I love the nature of street art as it’s constantly developing and evolving so there’s always something new to find. Of course the music scene here is also amazing. There’s free live music on every night so there’s no reason to be bored, and there’s enough variety to keep everyone satisfied. And with so many musicians in the city there’s a great sense of community as everyone comes out to support each other. I love it.
Why Songwriting?
I was really lucky in secondary school to have a teacher who let me spend my lunch breaks in the music department, experimenting with a vast array of instruments and software, which gave me this motivation to push myself and make the most of all of the musical resources I could get my hands on. I love performing more than anything else in the world and was originally going to take the Vocal course here at BIMM, but I realised that studying Songwriting would give me the most creative freedom to make the kind of music that I wanted to, whilst still giving me the opportunities to perform as much as I can. Songwriting has definitely been the right choice for me, as I can see that my tunes have improved tenfold in just over a year and a half, and I’ve been able to improve my instrumental playing as well as my vocal abilities.
