Ronja Pöhlmann is a first-year student from Landsberg am Lech, Germany, studying Songwriting. We caught up with her to find out more about her life in music.

Who are you listening to?

My roots are firmly based in Indie and Folk music, but I also really enjoy listening to Soul, Blues and Funk music.

There’s definitely so much good music out there! A few of my favourites will always be Angus & Julia Stone, Bon Iver, Daughter and Gregory Alan Isakov. All of them have their own unique way of songwriting and arranging that’s  very inspiring.

Elena Tonra, for example, is the singer and frontwoman of the band Daughter and hits me every time with her music. Her lyrics are so catchy and thoughtful; her voice so soothing and honest.

WHY did you choose Songwriting?

Music has always been an important companion in my life and I started making music at a very young age.At the age of 14, I started to write my own songs and never stopped it really feels like a natural process.

A friend of mine always says it’s therapy. I love the process of creating something new; arranging a musical experience and getting lost in it. I just love everything about it the start of writing the first lines and melodies in my chamber and later performing it live in front of an audience. Music connects people in every way that’s why chose to study at BIMM Institute.
