Mia Peters is a first-year Songwriting student at BIMM Institute Hamburg. We caught up with Mia to find out more about her life in music and what she is loving about BIMM Institute so far.
WHO are you listening to at the moment?
My favourite artist at the moment is Rhys Lewis. He’s a British singer-songwriter who has an amazing voice and is just as great with lyrics. He’s the kind of artist I aspire to be.
I also really got into Dermot Kennedy’s music lately and luckily got to see him live at Reeperbahn festival where Bimm Institute Hamburg also officially opened.
WHAT do you love about Hamburg and BIMM Institute Hamburg so far?
I was born in Hamburg and have lived here my whole life. I’ve also been travelling the world for the last two years.
Even though that was a really amazing experience, I’m so happy to back in this beautiful city. It’s big enough for anything you need as a young person, but is still not too overwhelming.
The small number of students and lecturers is great because after just one week I already knew everyone’s name. I think it makes it easier to get to know each other and find people to collaborate with.
WHY did you choose Songwriting?
I’ve always been a singer-songwriter, so deciding on just one instrument seemed hard to commit to. With this course, I think I’ll be able to explore my music further lyric-wise , as well as progress with my voice and the instruments I play. I’m certain that this will get my music to a professional level because I’ve only had two weeks of classes so far and I’m already noticing a positive development in how I work with music.
