Who are you listening to at the moment?

At the moment I am currently listening to Astrid S, she is a Norwegian singer / songwriter who I can really relate to. I am also obsessed with Demi Lovato’s new album as it’s such a transition from her older music. RAYE is another personal favorite of mine along with Mahalia who is performing in Birmingham soon – which I’ve just purchased a ticket for!

What do you love about Birmingham?

I come from Burton On Trent, a small town where there is not a lot to do really so moving to Birmingham has been a huge change. I love the amount of diversity and how people do not judge the way you act, dress or behave. I love the entire city vibe that is filled with such creativity. I have been able to really connect with music in Birmingham as there are so many places that support and love the industry. I’ve found that Birmingham gives me a sense of freedom to really grab so many opportunities, not only within music but in regards to life itself. I find that the creativity element which I mentioned gives this generation a chance to indulge and grow as enthusiastic people.

Why Vocals?

My course for me is a perfect fit. I’ve always been a singer, it is a passion of mine and I can’t think of anything better than being in an environment that encourages me so much. Unfortunately during my A levels I really struggled to find time to focus on music and I almost did criminology at another university, however after hearing about BIMM I knew I would be miserable doing anything but music. My course offers me the ability to improve my vocals in all areas and also helps me look after my voice which is something I really need help with. I love how the course doesn’t just teach us how to sing but teaches us how to perform. I think it’s perfect as we also have an element of music business so that we can learn how to create a sustainable career. The course allows me to explore my style and learn about other styles; this will be highly beneficial for when I sing at different events or if I’m requested to sing in a particular genre. I love the fact I am given the opportunity to perform with a live band whenever I want which again will be extremely helpful in the future. I would say that I am being given the chance to grow as an artist and every day I’m learning new skills to follow me through my career. Finally, I would say that being able to learn from people who are so talented and have a real passion for the industry is one of the best things I could ask for. In such a short time BIMM has helped me remember my true love for music and shown me why I should continue to push for this dream of mine, while also filling me with confidence as a performer and as a person.
