Who are you listening to at the moment?
Recently, I’ve been listening to a lot of Feeder. Feeder are literally my favourite band. The tunes just resonate with me, Children of the Sun / Morning Life specifically. I’ve also been listening to a lot of The Weekend and Kendrick Lamar, as I think it’s important to stay in touch with popular music. Nothing But Thieves’ first album has appeared quite a bit on my walks to work. Briefly, Sticky Fingers, Kasabian, and Biffy Clyro too.
What do you love about Manchester?
It’s all I really know. I love how you can’t rest; my body doesn’t but my mind does. It’s so juxtaposed and lovely on the eye. The spirit floods the streets, with gig posters, unsigned artists’ stickers everywhere and venues are slowly but surely everywhere. I think NQ is my favourite place but I sometimes go to Castlefield for a ponder-wander.
Why Songwriting?
I love being surrounded by fellow songwriters, fighting the same struggle as me. Through life so far, I’ve struggled with talking to people about music, it bores a lot of people and it’s incredibly refreshing to experience that. There are a lot of humble people too. Like in my Research Methods the other day, someone overheard my struggle on Twitter and offered their secrets to certain apps etc in gaining followers and I just thought that was so noble. Someone on the Production course shared a huge sample pack with me for free as they were struggling. It’s lovely.
