Take the Stage: George Harper in Robbie Williams’ Better Man

21st January 2025

Take the stage is our regular feature where we meet Performers College graduates and find out what they’re up to now. Today we meet 2023 graduate George Harper to find out about his role in the new Robbie Williams movie, Better Man.

What led to you getting the role in Better Man?

Initially we had to self tape a quick 30 second segent of the film’s routine and then it was submitted to the Better Man team. A few weeks later I was notified that I’d been selected to be a part of the team!

How did the average day run working on the film?

We did it all in one night shoot. Upon arrival our costumes were approved, and then went into a rehearsal to “clean” the routine. After that, we went out to space and film the dance. It took multiple takes through the night, but in our breaks the team really looked after us, providing us with snacks and a meal. It was great! We then finished with some backing vocals. It was so fun dancing on such an iconic street, and seeing Regent Street closed for the filming was incredible.

How did it feel to see the finished sequence?

I recently watched the film in cinema and it was amazing to see the finished sequence. From filming it to the screen it was so fulfilling to see it all come together to create such a spectacle.

What are your biggest takeaways from working on Better Man?

I would say the experience of a professional working set while training. It highlighted the level of intensity jobs such as Better Man require. It also taught me a lot about how to conduct myself and behave in a professional setting, before I’d even graduated.

How do you think it benefits PC students to do professional work before they graduate?

Exposure to the industry is invaluable when training. It teaches so many lessons about what is required in the industry to work at a high level. It gives you a taste of work and inspires you to push yourself in your training giving you a goal to work towards. It also provides you with a great credit on your CV before you graduate!

What else have you been up to? (this can be past, present or future projects!)

Since graduating I have appeared in Summer the Donna Summer Musical on the Norwegian Cruise Lines ship Prima as Gunther and was also the Dance Captain as part of the show’s Broadway team. Very soon I will be on the Norwegian ship Encore as the Handyman in Choir of Man. I can’t wait!
