In the Summer of 2021, BIMM University welcomed six students to Juniton Studios to record the ‘BIMM Album 2021’.
The album is being produced by Ben Schadow, who has over 20 years of experience working with a wide range of artists as a producer, songwriter and arranger, and is co-produced, recorded and mixed by Thomas Hannes, who has worked as a freelance sound engineer in the studio for many years. Philipp Welsing, who has spent time in New York City working at Avatar Studios and has founded Original Mastering will master the album. With genres ranging from indie-pop to guitar-driven rock the songs make a diverse body of work.
We caught up with each of the six acts featured on the record to find out more about the meaning behind their track. Here Marissa tells us about ‘All I Know
How would you describe your music?
Emotional Vocals with some R&B influences.
What made you want to become a musician?
Music was always my biggest passion. When I was a child, I was playing the violin and that was the time, where I discovered my talent and endless love for music. I was singing daily, and I couldn’t think about a life without being on stages and using every day to create magical moments for my audience.
Who or what inspires you as an artist?
I was inspired by singers like Rihanna and Whitney Houston. I just love the way they are using their voices. R&B music inspires me a lot. Generally, I listen to every kind of music to be always up to date and have more influences.
What’s the meaning behind the song you recorded for the BIMM Album?
It is like an apology for a person you love. You‘re apologizing for the bad times and that they are not representative for the love you actually have for this person. The mistakes were made by seeing everything through your perspective, instead of caring what the other person thinks about this and that. What‘s okay for you doesn’t mean that it’s okay for everyone. And now all you really know is that you are thankful that this person is staying with you, even if you have been the reason why they were so sad and that you love them more than your actions could show in the past.
How did the song come about and how did you write / produce the song?
I was sitting in my room and was thinking about writing a song for my boyfriend for our anniversary.
Can you describe your Songwriting process?
I was searching for Beats on YouTube to have some kind of inspiration. And then the words and melody just came to my mind, and I was writing them down. While pre-production we developed our own beat and I decided to let Jonas Grell play piano on my Song.
What projects are you currently working on?
I am working on a project with my fellow student Denise Bach. It‘s called braetz and we are going to release our first single ”beg once“ this year. It is an 00‘s inspired R&B song with some hip hop elements. I also work on EDM Songs. I work with FEDR on our first single, which is going to be released this year too.
What are your future plans as an artist?
I want to work with some more EDM producers and create nice songs and want to perform them on festivals! I also want to release an album as part of braetz. We are currently working on our first release, but there will be more!
