As part of our Music Made Us campaign, BIMM student Anna Savage tells us what inspired her route into music, why she chose to study an MA, and what drew her to Dublin.
Who inspired your route into music?
My parents are both professional classical singers, so it’s very much ingrained in my family and my life. My earliest memory is singing the “Queen of the Night” aria from Mozart’s Magic Flute while coming out of the bathroom.
What made you choose to study an MA?
I feel quite insecure about my musical knowledge across all areas. An MA seemed like the perfect course to touch on all facets of my career.
“I just wanted to test myself and get out of my Covid rut I was very much in.”
Why is Dublin right for you?
I’m from London in the UK and was desperate for an adventure. Before Covid, I was living in Vancouver but moved back because of my record deal. Of course, this isn’t a bad thing (both are excellent), but that desire to live away from home and test myself was still very strong.
On the (admittedly very few) occasions I’d been to Dublin, I always had the best time. I’ve got a couple of friends who were living here who were gorgeous. I just wanted to test myself and get out of the Covid rut I was very much in. It’s been an absolute joy being here, although of course, I’d like to be in the actual physical facilities a lot more.
