Ready for a new week? It’s the last Monday in February and we’ve got an awesome Track of the Week from BIMM Bristol’s Krooked Tongue with their latest release ‘Girls With Knives’.

Take a listen, and find out more about the track.

What was your inspiration when you began writing the track?
The inspiration for the song came out of a crazy series of events on a night out in Bristol. It’s an observational song about the behaviour of people in groups, and how we apply stereotypes to situations without realising.

Are there any artists that inspire you when writing?
I take influence from everywhere, and so do the lads. From hip hop, to punk and metal, to folk. But artists that inspire us directly are probably the likes of the incredible Highly Suspect, Death From Above 1979, Royal Blood and QOTSA! Though we try to have our own distinct sound.

What is key to your sound and how do you make your music stand out?
I think the key to our sound is experimentation. We use techniques that are typical of rock music, but also not. As loud as we love to be, we also love melody, and that’s an important factor in creating our sound.

How does your songwriting process work?
I (Oli) will always tend to write a song in its fullest form before taking it to the band. From there, we have fun playing around with tones and melodies, as well as heavy riffs. It’s always fun to experiment with new ideas.

Describe your sound in 3 words…
Fierce, Driven, Dreamy.

How has studying at BIMM helped you develop as an artist?
BIMM has become our home. Everyone there has really gotten behind us over the last year, giving us great opportunities to do what we love and for that, we can’t thank them enough.

What’s next for you?
Next for us. We’re keeping busy! We have a really exciting run of shows with Scruff Of The Neck coming up, which runs until April 11th at Rough Trade for our big home town show. So, be there or be square! We also have some incredible news that we’re dying to share, but for now we got to keep it on the DL!
