In this blog piece, we’ll try to answer any questions you may have about the application process, what it’s like to be a student, and how we support you during your studies. We understand that you may have more questions, so if there’s anything that we’ve missed, please email us at [email protected].
WHO CAN APPLY FOR A MASTER’S AT BIMM MUSIC INSTITUTE?
We accept applications from those who have completed, or are soon to complete, their undergraduate degree – and it doesn’t matter whether you studied at BIMM or elsewhere. You can also apply if you’re a mature student.
HOW DO I APPLY?
You can apply by following these four simple steps:
Step 1: Start your application
Apply directly to BIMM Music Institute by creating an applicant account and submitting an online application form.
Step 2: Interview
Once we’ve received your completed application form, we’ll be in touch to arrange your interview with one of our course leaders. This may be in person or via phone/video call, subject to availability.
You’ll be sent a confirmation email with the date, time and location of your interview, as well as some guidelines on what to prepare. If you have any concerns, or you need help preparing, please contact our Admissions Team.
If you’re attending your audition or interview in person, the course leader will let you know if you have been accepted onto the course and provide you with valuable feedback on how to develop your skills. In some circumstances, your application may need to be reviewed by a specialist in the department before a final decision can be made.
All this information will then be sent to the Admissions Team.
Step 3: Offer
The Admissions Team will send you an offer pack and contract. All offers will be conditional until you send proof that you’ve achieved the entry requirements for the course.
We’ll amend your offer to unconditional once we receive copies/clear photographs of your certificates and have verified that you meet the academic entry requirements.
Step 4: Acceptance
To accept your offer, please sign into your Applicant Portal and view your offer contract in ‘My Application’. Once you’ve reviewed your contract, you will be able to confirm your place. Please follow the step-by-step process outlined on the Applicant Portal.
Once you’ve confirmed your place, our Finance Team will be in touch to confirm your method of payment for the course. You will then receive information about enrolment.
If you require any further assistance, please contact our Enquiries Team on 01273 840 346 or email [email protected].
WHAT ARE THE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSTGRADUATE COURSES?
You can find the entry requirements for our postgraduate degrees on the individual course pages:
- MA Business for the Creative Industries
- MA Learning & Teaching in the Creative Industries
- MA Popular Music Practice
However, you can still apply for a master’s even if you haven’t met the entry requirements, as sometimes substantial professional experience (such as teaching) will be enough. You may be asked to submit an additional portfolio evidencing your experience. This is called a Recognition of Prior Certified and Experiential Learning (RPCEL).
The Academic Team will assess your experience on a case-by-case basis before your interview.
I DON’T LIVE IN THE UK – CAN I STILL APPLY?
EU and international applicants are more than welcome to apply and join our large community of students from all over the world.
Please apply directly to BIMM by creating an applicant account and submitting our online application form. There are no deadlines for direct applications, although we highly recommend that you apply before the end of August because they’re processed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Timetables vary depending on your course and location, but you can generally expect to be on campus two to three times per week.
