Who are you listening to at the moment?
Many people are surprised when I tell them about my favourite albums. I mainly play in rock bands and love hitting the drums hard. However, I enjoy listening to a substantial amount of pop music. One of my favourite records at the moment is Sheryl Crow’s latest album “Be Myself”. I appreciate country-pop in general, therefore artists such as Carrie Underwood, Shania Twain, or Miranda Lambert can be found on my phone. Some of my all-time favourite records are “Brand New Eyes” (Paramore), “Jagged Little Pill” (Alanis Morissette), “Stripped” (Christina Aguilera) and “21” (Adele). Of course I also listen to a lot of rock music, for instance Linkin Park, Bring Me The Horizon, Audioslave, Billy Talent, Incubus, The Doors, and The Who.
What do you love about London?
London is the place to be for me as it is global, vibrant and diverse. You meet people from all over the world on a daily basis which broadens your horizons enormously. Furthermore London is bursting with culture. Countless live music venues, bars, pubs, museums, and galleries provide an endless source of inspiration. Being a rock drummer, I am particularly enjoying that London has a great rock scene. I regularly play gigs in Camden with my band ‘The Kut’ and have also had the opportunity to play Camden Rocks Festival for the second year in a row.
Why Drums?
I have always loved the fact that the drums are a very visual instrument. There was a time when I found myself practicing big and expressive motions after watching videos by Keith Moon (The Who). I feel the drums enable me to express myself in a way no other instrument ever could. Being very disciplined and controlled off stage, the drums allow me to let go and show a different side of my persona. Moreover, I enjoy the fact that as a drummer you have the power to ‘lead’ a band to a certain extent by defining dynamics, intensity, and speed of a song.
