Describe your new track in three words…
Nostalgic, Energetic, Free
What inspired you when writing this track?
During the pandemic, I really started to appreciate the kind of freedom that we had before and completely took for granted. For many of us young people, these past years have also been a very defining time for us and our futures. I think that the lockdowns have had quite an effect on all of our mental states. By now, everyone is just exhausted, especially during the summer months; we are longing to get this freedom back. With this song, I wanted to put my emotions into words and capture this nostalgia, feeling this sense of freedom within the music again.
Are there any artists that inspire you when writing?
In terms of sound and style, some artists to name for me would be The 1975, M83, The Neighbourhood, Jeremy Zucker or Troye Sivan. But I think, just like most artists, I find inspiration in many different ways, especially from all these talented people that I am lucky enough to meet or the art and music that I experience every day.
What would you say makes your music unique?
Overall what I would say makes my music unique is my desire to be different. Growing up, I never really had the chance or the courage to stand out much, which is precisely what I am trying to do now with my music. Also, being a self-producing and independent artist gives me the freedom to do and make whatever I want, which probably plays into this.
Do you have a process you follow when writing a song?
I don’t have a process or rules that I follow when writing and making music. However, what is included within the process is a lot of re-thinking, re-writing and re-recording, until I get everything to where I imagined it to be.
How has studying at BIMM helped you develop as an artist?
Studying at BIMM has helped me develop in many ways as an artist but also personally. Apart from all the technical things I learned and the huge steps I took to produce and write music, what has helped me the most was getting to meet and know so many incredibly talented people. My time at BIMM has shown me how truly diverse music can be.
What’s next for you?
I plan to release an EP on the 22nd October and some collaborations that are on the way with some of the incredible artists I met through BIMM, and then hopefully a lot more music in the future.
