Indie dream-pop sextet Jumanji release their brand-new single “Higher” today. The BIMM Brighton band’s latest studio effort follows in a long line of successes including their brilliant previous singles “Shindig” and “Prana” plus a remix from Stewart Gardiner. We caught up with vocalist Neneh Atkins the band to hear about how the track was created.

What was the inspiration behind your track?

“Lyrically it’s inspired by young love and emotions that come with it. Musically, it’s slightly inspired by Catfish And The Bottlemen.”

What did your process involve?

“The process with this one was Aaron and Nathan came up with some guitar parts and then bought them to rehearsal where everyone jammed through the song and I added lyrics when they came.”

Is there a specific line that stands out in the song, and why?

“The lyric that stood out to me most is “Locking eyes and lips with my best friend” I feel like it has a nice flow to it and it perfectly describes the message the song gives.”

Can you describe your sound in three words?

“Dreamy, fun, fresh.”

What’s the best thing about studying at BIMM?
“Connecting with musicians you wouldn’t have met otherwise.”

The sun-kissed track has also been featured on ITV’s This Morning with Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford and the band will be shooting a video in early October, which will be released at the end of the month. Looking further ahead, the band are currently booking a UK tour for November, which culminates in a hometown show at Patterns in Brighton on the 23rd.
