Any music student knows the importance of having a good equipment dealer on speed-dial. So, here’s our list of some of the very best places to find that all important equipment – the tools of your trade! All links have been lovingly sourced from your knowledgeable tutors.

Best places to get equipment.

PMT is a great all round store stocking everything from  microphones, guitars, drums, P.A equipment, keyboards, recording, DJ/Production gear and accessories. Their main showroom is truly a sight to behold!

Guitar Guitar is the obvious choice for guitarists – But you may be surprised to learn they stock all sorts of other gear including effects, amps, recording, drums, pre-owned and more. Plus, they now have a dedicated acoustic store.

Giraffe Audio – These guys stock some extremely good stuff but their main focus is on high-end professional grade equipment. Perhaps not best suited to those on a student budget, then. Still, it’s good to have them on your radar for when your home studio needs an upgrade.

Shades Music is located on Alcestor Road and doubles up as music tuition school, as well as providing all sorts of basic supplies and accessories.

Fair Deal Music – Situated just a stones-throw from the Bullring, Fair Deal offer pretty much anything you could possibly want as a musician, including a dedicated area for folk and orchestral instruments.

The Little Guitar Shop – A three minute walk from Jewellery Quarter train station, you’ll find this little gem of a guitar store. It’s old school! Whether you’re after rarities, vintage Japanese guitars or a great deal on used gear, this is most definitely a place worth checking out. – February 2018 brings the Guitar Show to New Bingley Hall. The exhibition plays host to over 100 exhibitors from some of the best brands and retailers around and takes place from the 24th to the 25th. Tickets available from the website.

Of course, sometimes budget limitations call for renting your gear rather than purchasing outright. So, last but by no means least, we have Birmingham Sound Hire. These guys have been trading for 25 years and are situated a mere 5 minute drive north from the bull-ring. Whether you’re after breakables, backline equipment, a full P.A set-up or even a last-minute kick drum pedal, you can rest easy that these pros have got your back.
