At BIMM Brighton, our Diploma courses are run at the Brighton Aldridge Community Academy, with specialist facilities for our Diploma students. We caught up with Vocals student Paris Gibson about why she chose to join us…
What drew you to BIMM for a Diploma course?
I came to BIMM for a Diploma course in Vocals because, it is something I want to do as a career and something that keeps me happy and motivated. I was in a normal 6th form before doing Psychology, Business and Travel which really wasn’t for me. When I found out about BIMM I realised I’d rather be somewhere that really takes my aspirations and needs into consideration like here.
How is the Diploma Course helping you develop a career?
The vocals diploma course is developing me as an artist therefore, perhaps developing a future career for me. We’re being taught by industry professionals who have a lot of knowledge in ‘’reality’’ of the music industry preparing us for its tough break-through. It is helping me become more professional and business-like minded within what I want to do and within the correct way I must do it.
Have you got a stand out moment so far?
A stand out moment so far during my 3 months of being in BIMM diploma would be the 1st end of term gig BIMM organised for us to do with our set bands at the Latest Music Bar in Brighton. I just remember the amount of adrenalin and enjoyment I got out of our first public performance and how well the crowd interacted with us.
What’s it like at the BIMM Brighton BACA Campus?
It’s good as we are in the same building which is massive and separated into our own departments, BIMM have half of the building to themselves full of rehearsing rooms, vocal rooms, recording studios, the whole lot. It’s located in Falmer which is only 3 stops away from Brighton station which isn’t too bad. It has a community centre with a The Bridge café right next to it too, so in our breaks all the students will all hang about over there it’s a pretty good set-up.
