I’m a 3rd year guitar student at BIMM Brighton and I play guitar for the band Oceans as well as writing solo percussive acoustic music.
How did you get started?
I picked up guitar at school as a hobby, listening to bands like RHCP all the way to Lamb of God and jamming with friends. I only recently started playing percussive acoustic stuff as I’d been listening to guys like Petteri Sariola and Andy McKee and I just wanted to take it all and make my own thing! With Oceans I met most of my band mates at BIMM!
Why did you choose BIMM Brighton?
Brighton just seemed like the place to be; for the people, the culture and the music scene, and I’d heard that the guitar tuition was really good. Plus I love the sea so there’s that!
What has been your highlight at BIMM?
There’s been many but definitely the one that I will remember most is performing Oceans’ new single ‘What You Did to Me’ at Concorde 2 for the end of term gig to so many people.
What advice would you give to future students on your course?
Talk to everyone and make the effort to play and to go to gigs as much as possible. Meeting people is a great way to network and there are so many opportunities for that at BIMM.
