Hello! I’m Cat Doran,
I’m 21 years old, from Cork and I’m in my third year studying Vocals at BIMM Dublin.
How did you get started in music?
It’s funny because it was completely by accident!
My friend and I wanted to join a choir when we were 16 but I was sick the day of sign ups, so I asked her to sign for me, she ended up putting my name on an “individual classical singing lessons” list by mistake, so I got a phone call a week later asking what time I wanted to start… I just went along with it because I loved to sing, the rest is history!
Why did you choose BIMM?
I chose BIMM because it looked like the most exciting college I had ever been to. It was full of young, enthusiast people, amazing tutors and the atmosphere on the open day was so vibrant and new. I felt a true sense of belonging before I even auditioned.
What has been your highlight so far?
My highlight so far is a continuous one. Every term we have the hustle and bustle of end of term (EOT) performances. Everyone is running around crazy-busy and performing all day. I love taking part in that excitement more than anything every single time; it never gets old.
What advice would you give to future BIMM Students?
In order to get far as an aspiring musician (within BIMM and even outside of BIMM), always be true to yourself and your sound. Don’t try to fit in by doing what you think others want. If you create what you love and stay focused on that, everything else will fall into place naturally. And never say no! Always try everything out that you can. It will create opportunities you never even thought existed! Don’t forget to have fun.. that’s what it’s all about!
