My Name is Adam Wade, I am studying Songwriting at BIMM Bristol and I am currently in my second year.
How did you get started?
I started to play music in Plymouth from the age of 15 (even though I grew up singing, I never took it seriously until I was 15). I was friends with a fella called John Partridge who taught me how to play the basics of guitar. I remember the first ever song that I was taught was “Inspire of all the Danger” by the Beatles, and my first “gig” was in the first year of Sixth Form for Sports Relief.
Why did you choose BIMM Bristol?
I chose BIMM Bristol due to the location and because my friends spoke so fondly about it. I heard great things from my tutors inside my college, as well as talking to a guy at the BIMM stall at an exhibition I went to back when I was 15. I also had friends studying at BIMM London who highly recommended BIMM! I trusted my gut and signed up for it here in Bristol – best choice I ever made!
What has been your highlight so far at BIMM?
It’s really hard to choose, but I’ve helped a couple of friends out and made it to BIMM Live, and playing there was pretty awesome. I’d have to say the biggest thing for me has been meeting some bigger names in the industry… the likes of ‘Raleigh Richie’ (Greyworm from GOT), Luke Pritchard, and Matthew Tuck from Bullet for my Valentine. It has been a crazy few years!
What advice would you give to future students on your course?
Open up to the tutors and don’t overthink the course. It feels like a lot of work but break it down and do it bit by bit; it has a lot of small pieces of work that once you get your head around the beginning steps you’re well on your way to completing the assessment. Just don’t leave it until last minute and honestly… HAVE FUN! I have made a whole lot of friends since starting here, as well as contacts for future performances!
