November is a busy month for Hamburg’s music lovers. With top-notch gigs on almost every night of the week, sometimes it’s hard to choose which ones to attend! There are some big names touring this month, hot on the heels of new album releases, so keep those calendars clear and be sure to get hold of your tickets before they sell out. Of course, there are always brilliant local acts gigging, but why not try more of an international flavour this month? We’ve put together a shortlist of our favourite picks to help you decide.
THE KVB – HAFENKLANG: FRIDAY 9 NOVEMBER
With their new album ‘Only Now Forever’, the Brits, who now call Berlin home, have recreated an irresistible ’80s sound – all new wave and electro-post punk – that is sure to sound epic at Hafenklang. Their music has been described as a heady blend of electronic, psychedelic, post-punk and shoegaze. If you’ve ever imagined what it would sound like if Stereolab played alongside The Sisters Of Mercy, then get tickets to this show and discover The KVB. Exciting stuff!
ARKELLS – KNUST: SUNDAY 18 NOVEMBER
They’re superstars at home, and now the Canadian alt-rockers are touring with their new album ‘Rally Cry’. While admittedly their sound has changed a bit, and they’re not quite as rocky as they used to be, they have incorporated wonderful soul and gospel influences into their music, adding a new dimension that really works. Their edgy, politically motivated lyrics are as stirring as ever, and these guys are just a superb live act any day of the week. Tickets are selling fast so don’t miss out.
WE WERE PROMISED JETPACKS – MOLOTOW: FRIDAY 23 NOVEMBER
They haven’t toured in a while, but now the much-loved Scots are headlining, following great reviews for their latest album release, ‘The More I Sleep The Less I Dream’. Strap yourself in for a jam-packed night of relentless guitar riffs and floor-filling hits, as We Were Promised Jetpacks rock out at Molotow, before Hamburg’s best indie all-nighter, The Revolver Club, takes over, serving up dance-worthy indie gems aplenty. Tickets are on sale now.
PETER MURPHY; 40 YEARS OF BAUHAUS CELEBRATION – MARKTHALLE HAMBURG: WEDNESDAY 28 NOVEMBER
Peter Murphy, Bauhaus frontman and ’80s icon, is back for a goth-punk revival at Markthalle Hamburg. Celebrating 40 years since Bauhaus formed – quickly followed by the release of the brooding hit ‘Bela Lugosi is Dead’ and subsequent debut album ‘In The Flat Field’ – this big, dark gala will see Peter Murphy perform the cult album in full, supported by original bassist David J and their fellow musicians. Don’t miss this opportunity to see the ‘God of Goth’ in full flight. Get your tickets today.
