Top 5 Summer Music Festivals in Berlin

6th June 2017

After seemingly never-ending winters, Berlin really wakes up when the sun comes out. Although the city is renowned for its indoor club scene, there’s a hugely diverse number of outdoor events taking place from May onwards. We’ve compiled a list of the BIMM Berlin team’s favourite summer music festivals to make it easier for you to decide which ones to attend (if not all)!

Berlin Midsommar

Tickle your tastebuds at this Scandinavian vegan festival located just around the corner from BIMM. Taking place on Friday 23rd June, revellers can celebrate the longest day of the year by listening to acts such as Blondage, Adna and Cyber, amongst others. For a measly €11, you’re supporting a number of animal rights charities – plus one of the BIMM Berlin students has played a large part in helping to organise the event.

Lollapalooza Berlin

Foo Fighters! London Grammar! The XX! Berlin’s annual Lollapalooza attracts around 70,000 festival goers per day, and with acts including Beatsteaks, Marteria and Michael Kiwanuka, it’s not hard to see why. It’s not cheap, with day passes starting at €79, but if you’re looking to invest in just one festival this year, Lollapalooza might be your best bet. It takes place during the tail end of the summer, but tickets tend to sell out fairly early on, so it’d be wise to act quickly.

Carnival of Cultures

This open air festival lasts for four days, with a huge number of music events, elaborate costumes and street processions to enjoy. Spend the long weekend celebrating the diversity of Berlin, dancing to music hailing from 80 different countries, or indulging at any one of the 400 food stalls lining the streets of Kreuzberg. It’s free too, so there’s no need to fret over your bank balance while you experience one of Berlin’s largest open air events.

Fête de la Musique

Explore a diverse range of music at this imported French festival, taking place on Wednesday 21st June. It’s a fairly relaxed affair, with hundreds of unplugged musicians taking to the streets at this strictly non-commerical festival. Fête de la Musique takes D.I.Y. to a new level – everyone is encouraged to perform (attendees included), although it’s not mandatory. It moves inside at 10pm, and all for the reasonable price of €0.

BIMM Berlin End of Year Gig 2017

Last but not least, Friday 16th June sees the ineffable End of Year Gig. Taking place at Festsaal Kreuzberg, see BIMM Berlin’s finest take to the stage for your viewing pleasure. Plus it’s free, so no excuses!
