One of the high points of the BIMM Berlin calendar is undoubtedly the recording of the BIMM album, which recently took place at the world-famous TRIXX studios. Although it’s not due to be released until later in the summer, we’re excited to give you peek behind the scenes so you can see what we’ve got in store for you!
With the help of engineer Fabio Buemi (The Graves) and producer Pete Smith (The Police, Stevie Wonder) BIMM Berlin selected five of our favourite up-and-coming artists from the student body, whose work you’ll be able to listen to very soon as part of this project.
One of the tracks on the album comes courtesy of Alien Grace, whose mellow and ethereal Umbria is an intriguing start to the record. There’s a beautifully delicate balance between the two voices. This creates quite a contrast to the punchy follow-up Cleans Up Good from self-described ‘jangle-jazz rock’ trio The Usual Boys.
Josh McEwen’s Pretty Average is a sunny, bluesy, old-school tune – a laid-back, rose-tinted track which doesn’t take itself too seriously. The penultimate Annie Talks comes from third-year alternative-indie quartet The Flavians, whose nostalgia-tinged ballad features rich harmonies, curiously layered textures and charming guitar accompaniment.
Last (but most certainly not least), Me and the Monster’s experimental slow builder Give Me Fire combines intricate melodies and clever percussion, resulting in an exciting structure and movement – making it the perfect closing track to the album.
Keep your eyes peeled for a release date for the BIMM Berlin 2019 album – and in the meantime, take a look at the bands’ social media pages for details about their upcoming shows!
