BIMM London Music Business undergraduate and R’n’B artist Ta’Shan was recently featured on Spotify’s New Music Friday UK playlist. We caught up with her for a quick Q&A on how it felt to have her track placed alongside so many big-hitters such as Taylor Swift, Florence & The Machine and Craig David.

Hi Ta’Shan, what did Spotify’s New Music Friday Playlisting mean for you?

It’s amazing to see that the UK is supporting my music and that Spotify is too. It was certainly what I had wished for the release!

How would you describe your sound?

It‘s a fusion of different styles but I would describe it as ‘Curry mixed with a bit of Fried Chicken’ ????

How is your course helping you develop a career?

Being at BIMM has opened a lot of doors for me! It‘s a great place for anybody in the music industry and the course is definitely helping me on the business side of things.

Do you feel like the London music scene has influenced your music style at all?

Yes, for sure! The lingo and the flow have definitely made a difference, but I guess that is normal when living in a different city!

What’s the best thing about studying at BIMM in London?

Connecting with people! I’ve met a lot of people here whom I’ve worked with (and I still am with some of them!) or that have been helpful contacts.

Anything else we should be looking out for over the coming months from you?

A loooot of new music and there might be some collaborations in store as well…
