Q&A with Ivy at Midnight

Introduce yourself…

My name is Emily but I’ve been going by Ivy for a while now, I studied a Creative Musicianship Vocals. I’m a singer/songwriter and soon-to-be author.

What is your highlight from your time here at BIMM London?

I learned how to believe in myself, it’s really easy in such a competitive industry to lose sight of who you are & what you’re capable off & my lecturers instilled confidence in me & gave me the tools to be the best version of myself. I met some of the most incredible people and I feel really lucky to have been given a chance to do my degree at BIMM.

Why did you choose to study Creative Musicianship in Vocals?

It was the most fitting one, it combines singing and songwriting which are the two things I wanted to work the most on.

What’s your favourite part of studying in London?

I think the diversity of London is one of the things that makes it so special. Studying in such a vibrant city allows you to connect with thousands of people who are all working towards a goal, you build a supportive community of creatives & grow together.

Best piece of advice you’ve been given…

My Techniques lecturer Lisa Laudat never let me give up on myself, I actually wrote this down in a notebook, she said ‘you make a mistake, don’t worry about it & move through it’ I think about it often because if you dwell on your mistakes you’ll never learn. My Techniques lessons taught me so much, having a safe space to make mistakes & learn from them was probably the most beneficial thing.

What advice would you give to future BIMM Students?

Never let anyone tell you you’re not good enough. Of course, accept constructive criticism but there’s a reason you’re there & if you know this, the rest will come.
