In celebration of International Women’s Day, we’ve compiled a short list of some of BIMM Manchester’s best up and coming female-fronted acts. Sit back, crank up the volume and enjoy!

Izzie Walsh

Izzie has been making waves on the Americana scene for a little while now and we’re sure she’ll soon be making some pretty big waves further afield too. Her and the band will soon hit the road for a UK tour which takes them to Manchester and Scotland before heading down to London.

The new single ‘Take Me Back’ has been played and supported by BBC Introducing in Manchester, who described it as “a great song, the chorus is genius”. What do you think?

Maddy Storm

Maddy has been a firm favourite in the BIMM office for quite some time now. Last summer, she was incredibly active on the UK festival circuit, bringing her ethereal sixties-tinged rock to stages at Truck Festival, YNOT and Arctangent to name just a few. Here she is doing her thing at Gorilla, one of Manchester’s best loved venues.

The Elephant Trees

Featuring the one and only Martha Phillips on guitar and lead vocals, The Elephant Trees purvey some of the most exciting indie guitar music coming out of the city right now. Fun fact: Martha was also a finalist in Fender’s Unsigned Artist of the Year, 2017!

The alias of Diploma student Eve Short, Alexxx’s subtle yet confident vocal prowess speaks for itself. Her natural tone and poignant lyrics are particularly well showcased on her track ‘Lightning’. Needless to say, one listen to this and we were hooked.

James Watts

Social Media Assistant, Professional Bassist and Music Journalist. Career highlights include performing at some of the UK's premier music festivals, recording in Abbey Road and interviewing Debbie Harry.
