BIMM Berlin’s Top 5 Music Business Masterclasses

26th July 2017

At BIMM Berlin, we pride ourselves on using our industry connections to bring some of the most amazing people in the music industry directly to our students as part of our regular Masterclass sessions. Taking place every Friday, here’s a recap of some of the Music Business Masterclass highlights from this academic year.

Fruzsina Szép, Lollapalooza festival

Fruzsina Szép, the Director for Berlin’s Lollapalooza festival, came to talk to our students. Lollapalooza is the largest music event Berlin has ever seen, with 80,000 attendees and epic acts including Radiohead and the Foo Fighters. BIMM students were given a candid insight into the decision-making that goes on behind the scenes at this giant event and were able to learn so much about festival organisation, sponsoring and stakeholder management.

Lars Lewerenz, Audiolith Records

Lars Lewerenz, the CEO and owner of Audiolith Records, told us about his journey founding one of Germany’s biggest indie, punk and electronic record labels, with over 250 releases, boasting groundbreaking artists such as Feine Sahne Fischfilet, Frittenbude, Egotronic and Waving The Guns.

Marsha Shandur, The Art of Networking

Radio presenter, DJ, music manager, voiceover artist, music supervisor and networking coach Marsha Shandur came to BIMM recently to talk to students about networking and how it will benefit them as they develop their professional careers. Read all about the Masterclass here.

Gary Walker, Artist Management

BIMM Berlin students had the chance to attend an incredibly inspiring Masterclass with none other than Gary Walker – the manager of The Kills, who has also worked with other impressive artists, such as Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Libertines, The Smiths, Babes in Toyland… just to name a few. Read this blog post here by one of our students who was given backstage passes to meet The Kills after Gary’s Masterclass.

Joe Howden, Dark Arts

Joe told students the tricks of the trade he’s learned throughout his journey managing the social presences of world famous artists, including Björk. Joe also gave insight into managing social media for festivals, record labels and emerging talent.
