BIMM Berlin Music Production students were treated to a day of fun and experiencing the music industry first-hand recently when they took part in our exclusive Producer Camp. The event was a one-day session held at P*nut‘s Haus 2000 studio, just down the road from BIMM Berlin in the city’s artistic Kreuzberg area.
The day was hosted by esteemed London-based producer, P*nut, whose repertoire includes the late Amy Winehouse, Dido, Paloma Faith, Jennifer Lopez, Wiley, Emeli Sande and Faithless, among many others. Previously signed to Sony BMG as an artist, P*nut (aka John Harrison) co-wrote the track ‘He Can Only Hold Her’ with Amy Winehouse, which appeared on the Grammy Award-winning album ‘Back to Black’.
The day was a great opportunity for BIMM Berlin Music Production students to network, cross collaborate and experience a professional writing camp, working in teams on briefs and coming up with joint collaboration tracks at Berlin’s finest production studios.
BIMM Berlin Songwriting Student, Neeraja Narayanasamy felt the event was a brilliant opportunity to learn some of the tricks of the trade when it comes to music production and composition: “I had an amazing time working together with fellow BIMMers, discovering potentials and gaining valuable advice from P*nut. I learned a lot about structuring songs, simplicity and nurturing an idea into a composition.”
Haus 2000 was a great setting for the event, with its impressive range of professional equipment, including state-of-the-art Neumann speakers, microphones and other top-of-the-range instruments. Cosy and welcoming, the space has been purpose-built for production/songwriting camps and this helped to make the day a great success.
The workshop saw some fantastic tracks produced by the students and was an incredibly memorable experience for all who took part. Those in attendance also improved their media skills, taking part in interviews with Fritz Radio, who were also there on the day.
