What was the inspiration/is there a story behind your track?
I was at the beginning of a ‘new era’ after years of experimenting with different styles of music, and finally I made a decision on what kind if music I wanted to do as an artist. I have been inspired by loads of different genres of music, however I was really clear that I wanted my music to have a ‘dark and ‘edgy’ vibe to it.
The song has a very deep and special meaning to me. At the time when I was writing the song I was going through a really emotional time.
Even though I have used lots of abstract phrases, I think everyone has that period of time when they feel overloaded by what is going on in their lives, so they can relate to the song.
How did you write this song?
I spoke to producer Spiros Maus about my ideas for the song, and had a clear vision of what I wanted. We decided to experiment both with the sound and harmony (the instrumental was written in harmonic minor based on a perfect fifth interval which is not a usual thing for pop music). Then I wrote the lyrics and melody. It was a really quick process as I had a lot to say. After the song had been written my dear friend, producer Jose Cubides finalised the mixing and mastering.
Do you have a favourite line/section of the song?
Yes, it is a ‘rap’ part where I am literally pouring my heart out. It is really personal to me.
Can you describe your sound in three words?
Dark, glamorous, sexy.
How do you feel your sound has developed from studying at BIMM?
I learnt a lot about what my voice can do, what suits me the best and feels most natural. I got a lot of invaluable experience and by my final year I started collaborating with people and writing new original material.
What’s the best thing about studying at BIMM?
There are so many great things about BIMM, such as being in a great musical environment where you can learn so fast. Also, networking with other musicians, motivation, amazing teachers, and many opportunities outside class which we get as students.
