This week’s Behind the Track comes courtesy of first-year guitar student Valerija Kravale. Sharing the inspiration behind her vibrant new single ‘Acid’, she talks to us about the creative transition she made moving from the Netherlands to Berlin, and how this adventure has altered her songwriting process.
WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION/IS THERE A STORY BEHIND THE TRACK?
‘Acid’ is a goodbye song to my home country, Latvia. I recorded it with my friends back in the summer. We went away for a while to a country house and produced it within three days. We were basically just having fun!
WHAT DID YOUR PROCESS INVOLVE?
We had a lot of instruments – all you can imagine. I played MIDI keyboard on this track and I had fun for days with it. The magic happened in one night; the other days, we were just hanging out.
CAN YOU DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND IN THREE WORDS?
I think it’s very psychedelic with indie elements.
WHAT’S THE BEST THING ABOUT STUDYING AT BIMM BERLIN?
Spreading the word and being in Berlin, definitely!
