This time we go Behind the Track with BIMM Brighton Songwriting student Tobias Velke…
What was the inspiration behind your track?
When I was traveling through Australia I spent about four month in this hostel/campground called Arts Factory. It’s a very spiritual place, with artistic people from all over the world who had a different story to tell. On this one particular day there was a party going on across the whole campground and people were in a very good mood. Everyone was opening up and sharing their stories and problems from their life and were asking me what I wanted do next. As I was quite impressed by their stories already, I got the idea of the chorus ‘Your way, is gonna be okay, it’s gonna be so great’, so I took my guitar and wrote this song.
What did your songwriting process involve?
The process involved basically me, my acoustic guitar and the environment I was in at that time. Traveling to different countries and meeting different people gave me the inspiration to find new ideas and discover myself from a different perspective.
Is there are story behind the song?
At first, the idea for the story came from when I started my travel through Australia, watching the landscapes from a car that me and my friend rented. We had a great time, playing music, driving wherever we wanted to and of course we met a lot of interesting people. I had everything I needed but still felt this desire for love, realising at the same time that I needed to find love for myself first before I can share it with somebody else.
Can you describe your sound in three words?
Honest, sentimental, unconditional
What’s the best thing about studying at BIMM?
The people that I meet. There are so many talented and creative people that give me inspiration and motivation to work on myself and show me different views to stay open minded. BIMM is a great foundation to build your music career and to open up doors that you normally wouldn’t find.
Keep up to date with Tobias on Facebook, Twitter and Soundcloud.
