What was the inspiration/is there a story behind your track?

The track is focused around a broken relationship. It channels feelings from a destructive, painful relationship but also the acknowledgment of the difficulties of letting go of something that was once what you wanted.

How did you approach writing this song?

This song actually took us longer than previous tracks to write. We wanted to have a continuous build throughout the song that leads into a massive section at the end which conveys anger. We wrote the song one section at a time, firstly laying down the instrumental whilst I established the theme of the lyrics and then finally putting the vocals on top.

Do you have a favourite line/section of the song?

My favourite line from the track would be “The silk has turned to stone, doesn’t mean I want to be alone”. This line perfectly reflects the meaning of the song and the metaphor implies that something that was once smooth and flawless is now hard and troubling.

Can you describe your sound in three words?

Ambient, Commanding, Emotive.

How do you feel your sound has developed from studying at BIMM?

Throughout the course of BIMM, we have been able to learn more about our abilities in our given disciplines and harness these specialities to channel them into the material we write. As a band, our songs have become a lot tighter and we like to experiment more with atmospherics and stranger sounds – something that we are incorporating into our new material.

What’s the best thing about studying at BIMM?

Each member of Ruby Dutch has developed their skills vastly from studying at BIMM, which has enabled us to write the music that we love to the desired standard. However, I would also say that thanks to BIMM we all got to meet each other and have now formed a strong bond as a band and as friends.
