What was the inspiration/is there a story behind your track?
‘Burn’ is about how human beings distract themselves by chasing materialism and commercialism in a modern world, and how frustrating this can be.
How did you write this song?
Mike wrote the song last summer and created a demo which he then showed the rest of the band. We encouraged one-another to bring our own influences to the track to create unique parts and fills and use the initial track as a demo. This allowed each member’s personality and style of playing to be brought to life in the track. This ensured that everyone’s input was valued and helped us to gel together.
Do you have a favourite line/section of the song?
Our favourite section of the song is the chorus whereupon the lyrics ‘You lit the fire watch it burn’ are repeated, as this reflects the explosive tone of the track and lyrically feels like the cornerstone of the song.
Can you describe your sound in three words?
Explosive, emotional and nu-metal.
How do you feel your sound has developed from studying at BIMM?
Since joining BIMM, we have all been exposed to many different styles and genres of music, which has helped us write parts by taking inspiration from different aspects of the music we have been exposed to. It has also helped us to develop our listening skills in the writing process, making sure that we are writing our parts for the music as opposed to purely focusing on complexity.
What’s the best thing about studying at BIMM?
The best thing about studying at BIMM is meeting like-minded, hardworking and ambitious musicians who are all willing to work hard and sacrifice a lot in order to make it in the music industry.
