Meet New Zone, Alternative Symphonic Metal band from Sweden, who are currently studying at BIMM London.
What was the inspiration behind your track?
The track is inspired by dreaming. It explains how dreams and nightmares become inspiring. Dreams associated with fear or disturbance can be interpreted in different ways. In our song Demons, the lyrics explain how the nightmares bring inspiration and a desire of what happens in the unknown created by our own minds.
What did your songwriting process involve?
The rhythm guitarist Tim Stridh and singer Nicole Willerton could both relate to the message and from there Tim created the riff and chorus. When Nicole wrote the vocal lines and other instrumental melodies, many were taken from real dreams.
Can you describe your sound in three words?
Alternative Symphonic Metal
What things do you do differently to other bands?
We love so many styles of music, so these all come into our songwriting process. We also like to explore different soundscapes and sound effects. By adding all the elements together, we found our sound. We also want the elements to come across visually. We like to go outside reality and explore the unknown such as dreams and new emotions.
Have you channeled any artist in particular on this track?
In this track we followed our emotions. The artists and bands we listen to might come across musically from our background. The song came naturally and it was already completed before thinking about reference tracks.
What’s the best thing about studying at BIMM?
The best thing about BIMM are the industry hub sessions and masterclasses. We learn something new every time we attend them. Our vocal and production lessons have also developed us both technically and developed our music. And, we have a great time with our classmates and meeting new students.
What’s the best bit of music advice you’ve been given?
Only because you can doesn’t mean you should and hard work pays off.
What’s next for New Zone?
Some of us live close to each other in Sweden, so after BIMM we will begin to rehearse more frequently and gig as much as possible. The plan is to release music videos and hopefully come back to the UK to play gigs in the future and later on release our debut album
