Join us as we venture ‘Behind the Track’ with ‘Kosmonaut’ – the debut single from up-and-coming indie band Me &The Monster. This charismatic track will stay with you long after listening. Raw and powerful, it embraces the band members’ diverse backgrounds, combining rhythmic grooves, arresting vocals and electronic accents, and resulting in a self-proclaimed ‘tribal electronic progressive indie’ sound. Here the band tell us how it came to be.
WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND YOUR TRACK?
‘Kosmonaut’ is a feeling; it’s a moment. That ‘release’ moment when you know there’s no way back anymore. When all the cards have been played and the only thing left to do is hope for the best.
WHAT DID YOUR PROCESS INVOLVE?
A lot of trying out and filtering. This is the first single we’ve put out as a band, so experimenting played a big role. There are so many cool sounds out there, it’s hard to choose the ones you want to be part of your project. Since the very start of the creative process for the song, we invited a lot of people to our rehearsals to give us feedback and to help us hear things we couldn’t hear anymore.
DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE LINE/SECTION OF THE SONG?
When the first chorus comes in – just with voices and the rim of the snare making it sound like a mechanism instead of actual drums.
CAN YOU DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND IN THREE WORDS?
Spacey, tribal and electronic.
WHAT’S THE BEST THING ABOUT STUDYING AT BIMM BERLIN?
The way we learn to connect with other people; not only musicians, but also the music industry in general. Also, the way everyone’s main concern is the music.
