BIMM Berlin’s Music Production student, Makenzie Eason, from Chattanooga, Tennessee, recently released his first single ‘You and Me’ and we interviewed him to find out about what led him to create the track. But one thing’s for certain – this cool mix of rap, electro and pop is not to be missed.
What was the inspiration/is there a story behind your track?
It’s a song about a really sad time where I had someone who truly loved me; someone who probably would’ve given me everything, but at the time I was too caught up in me and enjoying life to see that, and she got totally destroyed… so it’s something I needed to talk about and get off my chest.
What did your process involve?
Originally, it was just me doing the whole thing, from the music and the arrangements to the songwriting, but I needed something more. So that’s when I decided to collaborate with Aimee Portioli, and together we created this sound.
Do you have a favourite line/section of the song?
I love the few bars of the second verse and the bridge between it. Those last few bars really show the guilt I feel and Aimee added these drums that made it still something you can dance to. It’s exactly how I wanted it to be.
Can you describe your sound in three words?
Rap electric pop.
What’s the best thing about studying at BIMM?
That I can be excited about Wednesday, which I normally think is the worst day of the week! I have the chance to be in an actual studio and learn everything any producer would want to learn, followed by learning how to translate that to do it on your own laptop. If you’re into producing, what more could you ask for?
