What was the inspiration/is there a story behind your track?
‘Better Off’ is a song that I wrote last year together with my friend Craig Sellar about wanting to be on your own rather than having someone in your life who doesn’t treat you right. It was written after a bad breakup but it could be about any type of relationship, whether that’s a friendship, family or a romantic one. I want it to be a self-love pop anthem that inspires people to stick up for themselves and remind them that they deserve the best and to be loved for who they are.
What did your process involve?
I came up with the hook one day last summer. I showed it in a session with Craig and we started working on it from there.
Do you have a favourite line/section of the song?
I think my favourite lyric is ”You think you’re perfect but I know you’re something else”. It’s quite a harsh thing to say to someone, but I love the sass.
Can you describe your sound in three words?
Empowering, catchy and fun.
What’s the best thing about studying at BIMM London?
I loved studying at BIMM London, mostly for the people and industry connections I met there. I’ve made friendships for life from that and studying there gave me lots of opportunities.
