What was the inspiration behind your track?
One of my biggest inspirations has always been Ed Sheeran and I think that is really evident on this track. I wrote ‘We Both Know’ a few months after ‘Sing’ hit number one in the charts and I think you can really hear the similarities in the rhythm of the guitar. I managed to put my own twist on it though and obviously the story behind the track is a bit different.
What did your process involve?
I’m far stronger musically than I am lyrically, so I always start by coming up with a rough guitar part or chord sequence and then put some words to it. The version of this track you’re hearing is very different from the original demo though and my producer, Callum Rafferty, did a great job of giving the song a new lease of life. That’s definitely something that runs through the whole EP I think – I’ve played all 4 songs for years but it’s only now that they’re seeing their full potential.
Is there are story behind the track?
There is a story behind the track but I don’t usually like to signpost it – I think it’s much better for the listener to create their own interpretation of what it is about.
Can you describe your sound in three words?
Guitar driven pop
What’s the best thing about studying at BIMM?
I love the fact that everyone is so supportive of each other’s’ music – even if it isn’t to their taste. Everyone is always encouraging each other on to their next goal or project.
