What was the inspiration/is there a story behind your track?

When Lil Boat started cooking, I had the intention of giving the listeners something to relate to. I think everyone’s had that crazy dream and it’s mad how many people just lock themselves in a safe bubble. Lil Boat is about stepping outside that bubble and doing what you love.

How did you write this song?

I actually recall myself tucking into a Tesco meal deal on my lunch break. I was by the sea though so it wasn’t completely random. I just came up with the first line “big dreams on a little boat” and I knew I could just go off on a mad one with it.

Do you have a favourite line/section of the song?

“We’ll take the steepness with a cheeky pinch of sweetness”. Don’t often blow my own trumpet but I think that’s a pretty cool way to look at life. Just don’t take shit too seriously and try to find a positive really.

Can you describe your sound in three words?

Rough’n’ Ready Cocktail.

How do you feel your sound has developed from studying at BIMM?

I think I experiment a lot more with a composition of a song now which comes from just putting more thought into it. I do like going back to the basics every now and then but it’s nice to just let my head wonder sometimes.

What’s the best thing about studying at BIMM?

I just love the people I work with. It’s cool not knowing who you’re gonna meet everyday and I think being around creative people naturally gives you a kick up the arse.
